Smart Draw Mac: The Diagramming Software that Checks Every Box for the Enterprise

If you live within the Microsoft Office for Mac ecosystem, Visio will obviously be more integrated into your daily workflow than SmartDraw. If you just want to create simple diagrams, Microsoft Office drawing tools are accessible directly from the Office ribbon where you can select Shapes, SmartArt or Chart.

The Confluence add-on also adds a useful Insert SmartDraw Diagram macros to the context menu within Confluence so that you can easily draw and add diagrams to tasks without leaving Confluence.

SmartDraw's automated drawing tools are smartly tailored to specific diagrams so that SmartDraw can take all the manual hassle out of drawing almost anything. Quickly add shapes using keyboard shortcuts and if you have to delete or move a shape, everything will realign and adjust automatically.

You won't have to recreate years of complicated diagrams or stencils by redrawing them. Import all your old Visio files (both VSD and VSDX) and stencils. You can continue to collaborate with co-workers who may still be using Visio. Once imported, you can edit, color, ungroup any file like it was created in SmartDraw. Export them back to Visio in just a click. See how to import Visio files on your Mac.

Creating and editing drawings and diagrams using SmartDraw is straightforward. The application features a traditional menu bar, while shapes and symbols appear in a separate pane. Most users will likely find they can begin creating capable drawings and diagrams immediately. Users seeking more guidance will benefit from a multitude of prepackaged tutorials, which include how-to videos for creating flowcharts, organization charts, floor plans, network diagrams, and mind maps.

However, there are so many diagramming tools to choose from. How can you know which one is the best for your needs? We have discussed other tools in the past, but today we will focus on the differences between Smartdraw and Visio.

Smartdraw is a diagramming tool for individuals, small businesses, and enterprises that was created by Smartdraw Software in 1994. With this tool, users can create flowcharts, organizational charts, floorplans, and more. No matter how large or small your team is, everyone can benefit from choosing Smartdraw.

Visio is a cloud-based diagramming tool, and is part of the Microsoft family. Users can create many types of charts, like Smartdraw, using a fast and easy drag-and-drop interface. Visio is easy to use for teams of all sizes, and has several different ways to buy or subscribe.

Before you get started, you need to know where and how you can use these programs. Smartdraw is web-based only, whereas Visio is web-based and also has apps for Apple and Android products. Smartdraw only works on Windows, and Visio works on Windows, Mac, and on-premise Linux.

Smartdraw allows you to create mind maps, infographics, decision trees, software designs, and much more. Visio offers much of the same, but some templates are not available in this standard plan, like mind maps and org charts. SmartDraw also has an intelligent formatting engine, which will automatically change the format when you add, move, or delete shapes.

For technical problems or other questions, both programs offer support through email or help desk, a knowledge base, and chat support. Smartdraw has 24/7 live representative support, and Visio has a robust FAQ section.

Visio and Smartdraw are compatible with other software programs, but Smartdraw is able to integrate with more. Visio works with all other Microsoft products, but no others. On the other hand, Smartdraw is compatible with Jira, Confluence, some Microsoft programs, Trello, and Google Workspace. Smartdraw can even import and export with Visio.

While Smartdraw and Visio have video tutorials available, Smartdraw offers many more than Visio. On Smartdraw, they explain different diagram types, how to make them, as well as helpful times in article form. If you need a more hands on approach, you can attend a webinar, or get live online support.

Visio also has an article for beginners that gives a step by step description on how to create a diagram. They lack many of the video tutorials Smartdraw has, and do not offer live online support or webinars.

Smartdraw has three options to buy, and does not have tiers. The Individual plan costs nearly $10 per month, and the Team plan costs $5.95 per user per month, with a minimum of 5 users. Teams get the benefit of premium support, a team folder, and administrative controls. Alternatively, your company can purchase Smartdraw for $2,995. Benefits of purchasing for this price include everything in a team license, as well as multiple team folders, SSO, and a theme for your company.

Visio and Smartdraw have the same customer base, which is everyone. Freelancers, small and medium-sized businesses, and large corporations all use both of these programs. Smartdraw proudly serves customers such as FedEx, Tesla, and the NIH. Visio does not share their biggest customers, but it is safe to assume that because they are part of Microsoft, that many companies all across the globe benefit from Visio.

I tried that. When I select the smart draw macro again, it opens smart draw as for a new diagram. I don't see any option to open or import the original diagram. There is an import option there, but it's to import external files. I tried downloading my original diagram files, then import them back in using that function, and that did not work either.

LibreOffice is an office suite (word processor, spreadsheet, presentations, drawing tool) compatible with other major office suites. The Document Foundation is coordinating development and maintenance of this OpenOffice.org fork.

OmniGraffle is a drawing utility that enables you to create quality diagrams on your Mac computer. This program gives you access to a wide variety of drawing tools and sample graphics, offers multi-layer support, and provides you with a quick...

I tried Smartdraw for the first time in 2016 and I was impressed by the ease of use ; I understood the major workings around this program in a matter of days.I have used Smart draw for Gantt style charting , simple drawings ,including floor drawings when I moved to my new home a while back.Smartdraw provides users with a variety of modules ,making it a program which can be leveraged by different professionals in different career fields.

Smartdraw doesn't allow for remote collaboration like what I have come to expect from months of recently embracing Lucidchart. I have also found out that when creating Gantt charts with this program , I am limited in the number of coloumns I am allowed to use.

SmartDraw is great if starting from scratch to create drawing ( both simple & complex). If documents need to be traded with users who are using Visio, there will be issues-- especially if drawings need to be updated or converted across several users. It has most of the power of Visio with some added discovery things so if one is starting without the requirement of Visio integration, its a solid, but pricy tool.

SmartDraw is the first chart making software I used and I used it for almost all my chart/ diagram requirements for a long time. Though I used this for creating mind-maps most of the time, it did contain all the tools one would require for any type of chart. The software does need some getting used to but once you're familiar with it, it does save a lot of time. If you're not used to a dedicated chartmaker, give this one a try. You'll never go back to manually drawing flowcharts, mind maps or hierarchies.

There are many drawing tools online for your needs. However, Edraw Max, SmartDraw and Microsoft Visio remain the most popular desktop options. Whether you want to create flowcharts, presentation graphics, circuit diagrams, or advanced infographics, these software tools give you plenty of options to create anything that can be imagined.

Compared to that, installing SmartDraw and Edraw Max is pretty straightforward. SmartDraw is available for Windows and Mac users, while Edraw Max is available for Windows, Mac, Linux and Web. Microsoft Visio is not supported on Mac and Linux, but you can view Visio files easily using these two software tools.

EdrawMax might have an edge over Visio because of the sheer variety of templates accessible from the main window. However, SmartDraw seems to be the most user-friendly interface out of the three: not only is it easier on the eyes with bigger fonts and soothing colors, but there are slightly more templates to choose from.

As they are directly available from the home window, Visio supports all basic features of a drawing tool. Whether you want to create flowcharts, block diagrams, Venn diagrams, network architecture, or work with AutoCAD drawings, Visio has them.

While Visio allows you to create almost anything you can imagine, its lack of attractive templates can be a dampener. Edraw Max lets you create some really cool concepts right out of thin air. For example, there are mind maps which look really attractive.

SmartDraw also has an interesting collection of infographics. It also lets you create marketing collaterals, brochures, flyers, and other similar designs. However, the advanced features are slightly less abundant compared to what you get with Edraw Max. 2ff7e9595c
